A drinking game that is guaranteed to get you under the table...
Right. It's quite simple. Get yourself a large supply of the alcoholic beverage(s) of your choice, sit down in front of the telly, watch an episode (or more) of that seventies sci-fi classic Space:1999, and drink the quantity of your choice whenever one of the following occurs, with an extra chug for each sub-section:
- An Eagle gets utterly obliterated
- and it's Eagle 1
- and you wonder how come they never run out of them?
- An Eagle crashlands
- A character unseen before this episode (A.K.A.: an extra) dies
- An alien force takes over someone's mind
- and they start typing on Computer's keypad really quickly
- and whoever tries to stop them gets thrown across the room
- Dr Russell is alone in Medical with an unconscious patient who unexpectedly regains consciousness while she's looking the other way and slowly creeps up behind her and she turns round and screams
- and someone bursts in at the last moment and stuns her attacker
- A regular character dies but is alive again by the end of the episode
- Dr Russell is reduced to cowering in a corner and bawling hysterically
- You spot a different colour of illuminated wall panel on the Moonbase
- That same part of the base that always blows up in exterior shots, blows up
- A non-Eagle spaceship appears
- and you've seen it before in another episode
- and it has an Eagle nosecone in the front
- The Alphans find a planet capable of supporting them
- and they commence Operation Exodus
- and they all have to come back again
- Someone steals an Eagle
- and renders a person unconscious en route to the launchpad
- and steals a commlock from one of them
- and knocks out the pilot too
- and the pilot is Alan Carter
- and renders a person unconscious en route to the launchpad
- Koenig has a conflict of opinion with the rest of the senior personnel
- and it turns out he's right and everyone else is wrong
- They do the Moonwalk in those groovy orange spacesuits
- An Eagle picks up or releases its payload
- and your first thought is "Thunderbird 2"
- You remember seeing this one back in the seventies
- Twice
- The Moonbase suffers a power loss of some sort
- and they lose their heating
- and someone in Medical complains that their patients will die
- and everyone puts on quilted jackets
- and the windows get frosted over
- and someone rubs a patch of frost off and thoughtfully peers outside
- and they lose their heating
- Koenig barks orders out
- The "Alert Klaxons" sound, and we see everyone running to where they are 'supposed' to be.
- An Eagles takes off and there's a Moonbuggy perched precariously on the edge of the launchpad
- and it disappears when the camera angle changes
- and you think "That's a bloody dangerous place to park a buggy"
- Someone makes a cheesy joke
- about relationships
- about toothbrushes
- about the quality of Tony's beer (or lack thereof)
- Tony himself makes a weedy joke
- about pasta
- about his beer
- Sandra screams and...
- she stands up at her desk in Main Mission/Command Centre
- and backs away from the viewscreen
- her uniform gets ripped
- and she gets to wear a leopardskin bikini
- she gets comforted by any of the following
- Paul Morrow
- Alan Carter
- John Koenig
- Tony Verdeschi
- Someone you've never seen before
- and it's a girl!
- she stands up at her desk in Main Mission/Command Centre
- Someone is prancing around in vacuum with a space suit
- and the visor pops open with no visible side-effects to the user
- Some entity (or entities) kidnap the senior staff of Alpha and have to have it explained to them in words of one syllable that...
- Alphans are not rabbits
- Alphans prefer their food cold
- Alphans are peaceful, fun-loving people as long as you don't dance with their girlfriends
- John loves Helena, and Tony loves Maya and that any other pairing the entities have in mind is socially unacceptable
- except if that "little ol' matchmaker in the sky" is shining and everything's in soft focus
- The Moon encounters some planet that looks like a beachball
- Maya tranforms into something and it's...
- an Earth animal
- more specifically, a man in a gorilla suit
- one of her Alphan colleagues
- a bug-eyed monster
- a transformation that serves a useful purpose in the plot
- an Earth animal
- Helena cries out "John!"
- An Alphan regular falls in love
- with a beautiful alien
- and the alien is still around at the end of the episode
- with another regular
- and it's not John and Helena
- and the guy kisses the girl, and five minutes later...
- he goes crazy on magic mushrooms
- he takes it back
- with a beautiful alien
- A non-regular Alphan falls in love
- and they promptly try to destroy the base/kill everyone in sight
- Helena watches someone die and shows no reaction whatsoever
- Something on the base smokes, catches fire, or blows up
- You see an explosion in space
- and there are sparks (which wouldn't exist in space)
- You see a cheesy effect
- in Space
- on the Moon's surface
- in Alpha
- Someone damages something (a door, commpost, etc) yet they never run out of new doors, commposts, etc
- Bob Mathias complains to Paul Morrow, "If you don't give me more power you might as well shoot my patients, etc.
